ADVISORY PANEL

In planning this project the ongoing help and advice of the following, each an expert in their respective field, has been invaluable.

Adrienne Simpson, M.A. (Victoria University of Wellington), M.Mus (Kings College, University of London)

The author of several books on aspects of opera in Australasia, the most recent being  Opera's Farthest Frontier: a History of Professional Opera in New Zealand, Adrienne Simpson was formerly Research Fellow at the National Library of New Zealand, and is area advisor for the latest edition of The New Grove Dictionary of Music and Musicians. She maintains close contacts with a number of Australasian universities, and is currently conducting preliminary research for a possible history of professional theatre in New Zealand.

 

Terence M. Russell, B.Sc. Econ. (University of London), M.A., Ph.D. (University of Toronto)

Retired Professor of Economics at the University of Toronto, genealogist, and a former Deputy Minister of the Government of Ontario, Terrence Russell is currently engaged on research for a book on 19th century British theatre and music hall as illustrated by the careers of three generations of actors.

 

David Wilmore, B.Sc. (University of Newcastle upon Tyne), Ph.D. (University of Hull)

While studying for his bachelor’s degree David Wilmore became involved with the restoration of the Tyne Theatre and Opera House, and in particular its unique set of wooden stage machinery. Later, when completing his doctoral thesis on the development of 19th century stage machinery, he was called back to the Tyne Theatre in the aftermath of the disastrous fire of Christmas Day, 1985, to restore the same machinery a second time. The following year he formed Theatresearch to undertake theatre consultancy and restoration projects. He recently edited with Terence Rees British Theatrical Patents 1801-1901. (He is currently Chairperson of the Association of British Theatre Technicians.)
